The Colorado Rural Health Center and the Colorado Neurological Institute joined forces to host the inaugural Colorado Telehealth Symposium on April 23, 2009. The purpose of this Symposium was to bring together clinical providers, health facilities, educational institutions, insurance carriers, information technologists, policymakers, and other stakeholders interested in advancing telehealth in Colorado. This report outlines the discussion on that day and provides the results of the most pertinent keypad polling questions.

Governor Ritter's Nurse Workforce and Patient Care Task Force

In early 2007, Governor Ritter issued an Executive Order creating the Nurse Workforce and Patient Care Task Force and charging it with developing standards and processes for the measurement and disclosure of nurses' contribution to the quality of patient care in licensed health care facilities, as well as evaluating the environment of nursing practice in Colorado and studying a quality measurement process for nursing. This is the final report of that Task Force, complete with policy recommendations that have since become adopted into Colorado statute.

DORA Collaborative Workgroup on APN Prescriptive Authority

In October 2008, the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) released its 2008 Sunset Review of the Colorado Board of Nursing, in which the Department recommended changing regulations regarding prescriptive authority for Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) in Colorado. Because a number of stakeholders disagreed with the recommendations originally set forth, DORA invited the Colorado Nurses Association and the Colorado Medical Society to participate in a collaborative workgroup process to reach consensus on state regulation of prescriptive authority for APNs. This is the final report resulting from that process, which was adapted into legislation and introduced before the General Assembly during the 2009 session.
